James E. Child: 1833-1912

     James E. Child was the owner, editor and Publisher of The Wilton Weekly (now know as The Waseca County News). He was a "spokesperson" for Waseca, and he played a very big role in the settling of Waseca County. He also was a very big part it establishing the city of Waseca, and promoting the cities growth. James E. Child, was a very skilled man, he was a carpenter, schoolteacher, farmer, lawyer, banker, newspaperman, writer, editor and publisher. He also served on many different committees including the House of Representatives. Along with all of this, in 1905, Child published a record of the county's first fifty years, which was called Child's History of Waseca County.
