William Grosvener Ward: 1827-1892
Ward, who was originally from New York, was a Waseca founder and a civil engineer. In 1867 he laid out the Winona-St. Peter Railroad tracks, south of Clear and Loon Lake. Along with this, Ward was Waseca's first mayor, a lawyer, Greek scholar, state politician, senator, and a wealthy real estate dealer. Ward also founded Waseca's Farmer's National Bank, and was thought to be one of Minnesota's strongest banks.
