Layla Keith

Waseca High School is proud to recognize senior Layla Keith for earning the highly competitive Dease Scholarship from University of St. Thomas.

This prestigious award covers the full cost of tuition for up to eight semesters, with a total value exceeding $227,400. The Dease Scholarship is awarded to a select group of students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership, character, and potential for future success.

The Dease Scholarship Program is named in honor of Reverend Dennis Dease, the university’s 14th president, who initiated the program to expand access to a St. Thomas education. Each year, just ten first-year students are selected to receive this full-tuition scholarship. Recipients are chosen based on high financial need, as well as a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and service within their communities. The scholarship is not open to international students.

Beyond financial support, the Dease Scholarship Program is designed to help students realize their fullest potential. Scholars are connected with one another through a cohort model and participate in opportunities focused on civic engagement, leadership development, and social networking. Being named a Dease Scholar reflects a commitment not only to service, but also to becoming an effective changemaker on campus, in the community, and beyond.

Layla’s accomplishment is a testament to her dedication in the classroom, her commitment to personal growth, and the positive impact she has made throughout her time as a Bluejay. She represents the very best of Waseca Public Schools, and this recognition reflects both her hard work and her bright future ahead.

As Layla prepares to continue her academic and personal journey at the University of St. Thomas, the Waseca community is excited to see all that she will achieve in the years to come.

Congratulations, Layla! Once a Bluejay, always a Bluejay!
