The Waseca Bluejays girls’ tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Thursday, shutting out the New Ulm Eagles 7-0 at home. The Bluejay junior varsity also remained undefeated on the day, winning 4-0.
The singles lineup set the tone early for Waseca. No. 1 Maddy Benson rolled past Natalie Fischer 6-0, 6-2, while No. 2 Ava Miller overcame a late surge from Carmen Schotzko to win 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 in a closely contested match. Pearl Moore at No. 3 singles defeated Lillian Kral 6-1, 6-0, and No. 4 Layla Keith secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kaylee Evans.
The doubles teams kept the momentum going. Vivian Mader and Paige Dufault dominated 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot. Hannah Rugger and Anna Benson cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, and Madison Rasche and Lily Sanchez completed the sweep with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The win improves Waseca’s record to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in BSC-Black play. The Bluejays return home on Tuesday to face Tri-City United at 4:30 p.m.
