The Waseca Bluejay Girls Tennis team traveled to Northfield on Monday, where the Raiders came away with a 5-2 victory. The Junior Varsity also played a tight match but fell 3-2.
Waseca picked up wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Senior Vivian Mader outlasted Northfield’s Maia Richardson in a three-set thriller, winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-7. At the top doubles spot, the duo of Paige Dufault and Ava Miller also pulled out a super tiebreak win, defeating Elsa Mitchell and Kate Sand 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.
The Bluejays came close in other spots as well. The No. 2 doubles team of Hannah Rugger and Anna Benson battled through three sets before falling 7-6(4), 4-6, 10-7. The loss marked the first setback of the season for the pair.
With the loss, Waseca moves to 4-4 on the season. The Bluejays will look to bounce back quickly as they host Worthington on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
