The Waseca Bluejay gymnasts earned their first dual meet victory of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Marshall 129.55–106.075 in a strong team performance highlighted by multiple top finishes and personal bests.
Layla Keith led the way for Waseca with a dominant all-around performance, winning the event with a score of 34.8. Keith also claimed first place on all four individual events, posting scores of 9.05 on vault, 7.8 on bars, 8.675 on beam, and 9.275 on floor.
The Bluejays placed five gymnasts in the top five of the all-around standings. Katelyn Weber finished second with a 31.7, followed closely by Ellie Clark in third with a personal-best score of 31.5. Hannah Parks placed fourth at 30.475, and Avery Carda rounded out the top five with a 30.425.
Waseca continued to shine across individual events. On vault, Weber earned second place with a personal-best 8.875, while Clark (8.775) and Carda (8.625) also recorded personal-best performances to finish third and fourth, respectively. Parks added a fifth-place finish with an 8.35.
Bars competition saw Keith take first, with Parks finishing second at 7.575. Weber placed third with a 7.3, and Clark followed in fourth with a 7.25.
On beam, Keith again led the field, while Weber placed second with a 7.375. Clark recorded another personal best with a 7.225, and Carda added a fifth-place finish at 7.1.
Floor exercise wrapped up the night with Keith earning first place. Parks and Clark tied for second with scores of 8.25, Weber placed fourth at 8.15, and Carda finished fifth with a 7.85.
With the win, the Bluejays improve to 1–1 in dual meets this season and 1–1 in Big South Conference competition. Waseca will return to action on Thursday, December 18, at 6:00 p.m. when they host the Byron Bears.
