Waseca Wrestling competed in a large, competitive field at the JCC/Pizza Ranch Invitational on Saturday, December 15, hosted by Jackson County Central High School. The tournament featured 34 teams across both the boys and girls divisions, providing a full day of high-level matches and valuable mat time.
On the boys side, several Bluejays battled through deep brackets:
139 lbs: Deven Parpart finished 1–2 on the day, picking up a win in a challenging weight class.
145 lbs: Jacob Knutson put together a strong performance, going 3–2 with wins in four matches overall and earning a 4th-place finish.
152 lbs: Braxton Nelson posted a 2–2 record, showing resilience by bouncing back after early setbacks.
160 lbs: Sam Selthun went 3–3, stringing together multiple wins on his way to a 6th-place finish.
172 lbs: Alex Bethke finished 4–2, earning a 6th-place medal after a solid run through the consolation bracket.
Slade Barnett delivered a flawless performance, going 4–0 on the day to claim the championship in the 172lbs weight class.
The girls varsity wrestlers also turned in strong results:
136 lbs: Sofia Bunn was dominant, going 3–0 to capture the championship.
124 lbs: Hailey Proehl finished 1–2, earning 3rd place.
155 lbs: Jazelle Neal placed 4th after competing in a tough bracket.
Waseca returns to action quickly with a busy week ahead. The Bluejays will compete in a triangular at Pine Island with Austin on Tuesday, December 16, at 5:00 p.m. Action continues Friday, December 19, at the Lake City Quadrangular, facing Howard Lake–Waverly–Winsted, LARP, and host Lake City beginning at 5:00 p.m.
