Section Wrestling

The Waseca High School wrestling program is sending its best to the Section 1AA Individual Tournament this weekend at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center. The Waseca Bluejay Wrestlers have worked all season preparing for this moment, and the community is invited to cheer them on as they compete for a chance to advance to the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament.

The tournament begins Friday, February 20, with medical checks and weigh-ins starting at 3:00 p.m., followed by open mat warm-ups from 3:30–4:45 p.m. Doors open for spectators at 4:00 p.m., and the first matches begin at 5:00 p.m., continuing through the conclusion of first and second-round wrestlebacks and quarterfinals. By the end of Friday, the championship and consolation brackets will be set for Saturday’s action.

Tickets for Friday’s session can be purchased in advance here. Admission is $10 for adults (plus fees $12.50) and $6 for students (plus fees $7.50). Prices at the Civic Center will be $13.50 for adults and $8.50 for students.

Saturday, February 21, will feature championship and consolation matches for Classes A, AA, and AAA. Medical checks and weigh-ins begin at 8:30 a.m. for Class AAA and 9:30 a.m. for Classes A and AA. Warm-ups run from 9:30–10:15 a.m., and doors open at 9:30 a.m. Championship quarterfinals begin at 10:30 a.m., with semifinals and consolation matches starting at 11:30 a.m. The day concludes with 5th place matches and the evening Parade of Champions, followed by 3rd place and championship matches, including True Second matches.
