The Waseca Bluejays kept their season alive in dramatic fashion with a 52-50 victory over The Blake School in the Class AA Consolation Semifinals, using a dominant second half to erase an early deficit.
Blake controlled the opening half, building its largest lead of 11 points midway through the first half and taking a 30-20 advantage into the break. Waseca struggled offensively early, shooting just 28.6% in the first half, but flipped the script after halftime with a much sharper 43.3% performance.
The Bluejays took control in the second half behind a 9-0 scoring run—their best stretch of the game—and outscored Blake 32-20 over the final 18 minutes. The contest featured six lead changes and five ties, with Blake holding the lead for over 24 minutes compared to just under six minutes for Waseca, highlighting how late the momentum shifted.
Cyrett Long led Waseca with 15 points, connecting on five three-pointers to spark the comeback. Deron Russell added 14 points, while Ethan Hiller delivered a dominant performance with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Toby Jeske chipped in 6 points, and Owen Honstad added 4.
Waseca found its edge in the paint, outscoring Blake 28-18, and matched Blake with 13 second-chance points and 10 points off turnovers. Despite shooting just 36.2% from the field and 23.1% from three, the Bluejays’ rebounding strength and second-half execution proved decisive.
With the win, Waseca advances to the Class AA Consolation Championship game, where they will face fellow Big South Conference opponent Jackson County Central. More information on tomorrow's Consolation Championship game can be found below:
