The Waseca Bluejays continued their strong play Monday afternoon, earning a 5-2 victory over the Lake City Tigers on the road. Behind a clean sweep in singles and a resilient performance in doubles, the Bluejays improved to 4-3 on the season. The junior varsity squads battled to a 3-3 tie in a competitive matchup.

Waseca set the tone early by dominating singles play, winning all four matches in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Henry Huttemier delivered one of his most complete performances of the season, overpowering Lake City’s Maddox Shones 6-0, 6-1. Huttemier controlled points from the baseline and dictated tempo throughout the match.

At No. 2 singles, Armaan Bhatti turned in another strong showing, defeating Cade Oliver 6-3, 6-0. Bhatti’s consistency and ability to limit unforced errors proved to be the difference as he pulled away in the second set. Keenan Collins followed suit at No. 3 singles with an identical 6-3, 6-0 victory over Andrew Berger, using steady groundstrokes and strong court awareness to stay in control.

Korbin Collins rounded out the singles sweep at the No. 4 position, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ivan Chen. Collins faced his toughest test of the day but responded well in key moments, closing out the match with composed play down the stretch.

In doubles, the Bluejays secured a pivotal win at the No. 1 spot. Allen Kopetzki and Nolan McQuery showcased resilience and teamwork in a dramatic 6-4, 7-5 victory over Elliott Lukes and Patrick Kennedy. After taking the first set, the Waseca duo found themselves trailing 1-5 in the second set before mounting an impressive comeback, winning six of the final seven games to seal the match.

Lake City picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, as Izayah Johnson and Michael Eklund defeated Bryghton Rugger and Carson True, while Corbin Field and Everett Dinsmore topped Nick Nelson and Jacob Harguth.

Overall, the Bluejays’ dominance in singles play proved to be the difference, giving them the edge in the team score despite Lake City’s efforts in doubles.

Waseca will look to carry that momentum into a quick turnaround, traveling to St. Peter on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. match against a strong Saints squad that enters with a 7-4 record.
