The Waseca Bluejays delivered a strong overall performance at the St. Charles Varsity Invite on April 28, highlighted by a second-place finish from the boys team and a 6th-place finish by the girls. Waseca athletes combined for multiple event wins, relay victories, and a deep list of top-eight finishes across both track and field competitions.

Boys Finish Runner-Up Behind Host St. Charles

The Waseca boys team placed second overall with 143.5 points, finishing behind only St. Charles in the team standings. The Bluejays were powered by several individual champions and dominant relay performances throughout the meet.

Tovin Grannis led the way with a pair of individual titles, winning both the 110-meter hurdles in 16.48 and the 300-meter hurdles in 41.14. William Mansfield had a standout day in the field events, capturing first place in both the pole vault (14-0) and triple jump (40-4).

Waseca also swept multiple relay events, including wins in the 4x100 (44.74), 4x200 (1:34.95), and 4x800 (9:08.88). The 4x100 relay team featured Jonah Worke, Jett Rohl, Aydan Kath, and Jordan Johnston, while the 4x200 title came from Rohl, Kath, Malachi Noble, and Johnston. The distance relay squad of Sunny Mei, Landon Rutt, Brady Tlougan, and Ryan Yoder secured the 4x800 victory.

Additional strong finishes included Malachi Noble taking second in the 400 meters (52.85), Landon Rutt placing fourth in the 3200 meters (10:43.66), and Samuel Selthun finishing third in the long jump (18-6.75). Toby Jeske added scoring depth with seventh in shot put (40-1.25) and fourth in discus (142-4).

Girls Earn Sixth Behind Balanced Effort

The Waseca girls finished sixth overall with 61 points, highlighted by several top-five individual and relay performances across the meet.

Taylor Markeson led the distance group with a runner-up finish in the 3200 meters (12:38.88), while Stella Omtvedt added a strong fifth-place finish in the 1600 meters (5:58.01). Quinn Yoder also contributed with a fourth-place finish in the 3200 meters (13:20.17).

In the field events, Savanna Vagts tied for third in the high jump (4-8), and Reese Rodriguez delivered a strong all-around day, finishing fourth in the 200 meters (28.79) and fourth in the triple jump (30-3.5). Addie Zimmerman added a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (18.83).

Waseca also picked up key relay points with a third-place finish in the 4x200 (2:01.93), third in the 4x800 (11:00.35), fourth in the 4x100 (56.07), and fifth in the 4x400 (4:42.20).

Strong Team Showing

With multiple event champions on the boys side, consistent scoring across both programs, and several relay podium finishes, the Bluejays left St. Charles with one of their most complete performances of the season.
