Waseca High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Tyler Buesgens as the next Head Wrestling Coach for Waseca Junior/Senior High School.
Buesgens brings a strong combination of competitive wrestling experience, coaching knowledge, and classroom leadership to the Bluejay wrestling program. He currently serves as an English Language Arts teacher at Waseca High School, where he teaches 10th and 11th grade students. Prior to joining Waseca Public Schools in 2025, he taught 11th and 12th grade English Language Arts at Belle Plaine High School from 2022–2025.
Buesgens has established himself as a respected coach and mentor. From 2021–2025, he served as a Varsity Assistant Wrestling Coach for the Scott West Panthers and a Junior High Football Coach at Belle Plaine High School. Since joining Waseca, he has continued that commitment as the Bluejays' Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach and Junior High Football Coach.
A graduate of Jordan High School, Buesgens was a standout wrestler for one of Minnesota's premier wrestling programs before continuing his collegiate career at Iowa State University, where he competed from 2018–2021.

"Tyler has a deep understanding of the sport, a passion for developing student-athletes, and a genuine commitment to building meaningful relationships with young people. Having already spent the past year working alongside our wrestlers and coaching staff, he understands the tradition and expectations of Bluejay Wrestling. We are confident he will continue to build a program that emphasizes hard work, accountability, sportsmanship, and success both on the mat and in the classroom."
Buesgens is eager to continue the proud tradition of Waseca wrestling while investing in the growth of every student-athlete in the program. His experience as both a high-level competitor and coach, combined with his dedication as an educator, positions him well to lead the Bluejays into the future.
